Gahwas or coffee shops/restaurants pre-existed the now prevalent coffee shops like Starbucks, McDonalds etc.

They are places not only to have a cup of tea and something to eat, they are places where a whole neighbourhood gathers at night to talk, play games like dominoes, carom, chess and watch TV. It is a place that brings the whole community together.

Sadly, they are disappearing... where people now prefer the Starbucks of the world to the traditional gahwas.
